E-E-A-T
What is E-E-A-T?
E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness) is a set of criteria used by Google to assess the quality of web content and its author. Introduced in Google's Quality Rater Guidelines, it evolved from E-A-T to E-E-A-T in 2022 with the addition of Experience. These criteria are particularly important for so-called YMYL (Your Money or Your Life) content: health, finance, law.
Why is E-E-A-T important for SEO?
E-E-A-T is not a direct ranking factor in a technical sense, but it does influence how Google Quality Raters evaluate pages, which indirectly impacts algorithms. A site with a strong E-E-A-T will be considered more reliable, better positioned on competitive requests and less vulnerable to algorithmic updates (Core Updates). It is a pillar of modern editorial SEO.
How to improve the E-E-A-T of your site?
Several concrete actions make it possible to strengthen E-E-A-T: clearly display the identity and credentials of authors, obtain Backlinks of sites recognized in its sector, take care of the “About” pages and legal notices, integrate testimonies and verifiable social proofs, use the Schema markup (Author, Organization, Review), and publish regularly updated content. E-E-A-T is also linked to netlinking: the more a site is cited by authoritative sources, the more its credibility increases.
What is the link between E-E-A-T and generative AIs?
With the emergence of AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) and AI-driven search engines, E-E-A-T is becoming even more strategic. Generative AIs (ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity) favor reliable, expert and cited sources to build their answers. Optimizing your E-E-A-T also means maximizing your chances of being cited in the answers of AI assistants.
